Program Information
Get ready for a night downtown as we present this year's spring concert in a totally new venue: Sixth & I!
"Defining the Times" will take you through the eras of America's distinctive musical heritage, from the hardy pilgrims to the new frontier, from the struggles of slavery and the Civil War to the prosperous rise of the 20th century.
Blending music from American legends such as Louie Armstrong, George and Ira Gershwin, and Aaron Copland with pastoral melodies and the likes of modern hit-makers Leonard Cohen and Fun., the program features a nod to our jazz history, beautiful arrangements of traditional American tunes, and some new re-workings of a few numbers that you might find on your Spotify playlist.
Did we mention Adele performed on this stage? Or Tina Fey, or Wyclef Jean, or Idina Menzel, or Fiona Apple? A synagogue that transformed itself into a cultural mecca, Sixth & I offers the DC community a fresh, resonant, and creative mix of programs with authors, musicians, politicians, comedians, filmmakers, journalists, actors, chefs, and other thought leaders, allowing the community to plug in to what's happening at the forefront of the cultural scene.
Co-presented by Sixth & I.
